The machine concept:
The machine is designed to harden cutting edges and wear surfaces on jigs and dies which are processing sheet metal for the automotive industry. In combination with Simultaneous-Dual-Frequency generators (SDF®), hardness penetration depths between 0.5 and 3mm are feasible on single continuous hardening paths without interruptions. The integrated online temperature control provides an almost constant surface temperature. To import the continuous hardening paths, the operator moves the measuring head to the work piece and programs the necessary teach points. The control will incorporate these teach points into a hardening program and then transfer to the hardening head and process. The existing machine consists of a base with a flexible overhead gantry and a Z-axis built in a tower design. The hardening head has a rotating axis of +/- 186 degrees and a swiveling axis of +/- 90 degrees and is mounted to the tower. On independently built portals, 2 sensor heads are installed to read the required continuous hardening paths through the teach-in procedure. Hardening parameter monitoring is based on each particular hardening path with Ethernet to the PC.
